San DIego Model Railroad Museum

Join the Learning Institute on Friday April 27th as Matt Garrett of TGG Accounting presents his second discussion in a 3-part series. This month, Matt will share his perspective on finding cost savings at every organizational level. Cost Savings is the responsibility of the entire organization - learn how you can help!

Participants will explore practical and tactical tools that can be used to identify cost savings in their organization. Joining Matt this month will be Mark Neilson of Accretive Services and together they will share the techniques they use to find savings. Many organizations are facing financial constraints in this tough economy and have explored their own cost savings techniques. Participants will discuss their own effective cost saving practices, how they were implemented, what resistance was felt, and how much savings resulted. How have you taken cost saving responsibilities into your own hands to help your organization save? Come prepared to share your own cost saving practices - no matter how big or small.

This interactive workshop will provide step-by-step tools to discover cost savings participants can use within their own organization, as well as a better understanding of the challenges organizations may face and how to overcome them.

Communicating Financial Performance to Your Board and Your Team*
June 12, 2012, 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.
San DIego Model Railroad Museum

Join the Learning Institute on Tuesday June 12th as Matt Garrett of TGG Accounting presents his third discussion in a 3-part series. Financial statements by themselves can often create more questions than answers. One of the keys to great financial statements is great communication. This is especially true in non-profit organizations where employees and Board members may not be familiar with the accounting terms, format, and accounting requirements that are unique to non-profit organizations. Through Matt’s unique approach, you will learn the following:

  • How to communicate your financial performance in terms everyone understands;
  • How and when to write notes to the financial statements;
  • How to incorporate the Mission of the Organization into the Financial Statements;
  • When to use picture and graphs as a communication tool;
  • How to draft a monthly performance summary; and
  • How to integrate Key Performance Indicators to highlight your performance.

*An accounting degree or role in the accounting department of your organization is not a prerequisite.
