Balboa Park Sustainability Walk-About is a Success

On November 15, the Sustainability Program hosted  the Balboa Park Sustainability Walk-About. Local leaders in environmental studies got a first hand look at the sustainable practices and ambitions of 5 museums, including the Park’s two LEED certified buildings: San Diego Natural History Museum and Reuben H. Fleet Science Center.  The purpose of this series is to expand community awareness of the value of energy efficiency and  sustainability practices, while showcasing the amazing institutions of Balboa Park.

What participants are saying: We asked participants to share comments about their experiences during the Balboa Park Sustainability Walk-About.  Below are some quotes from participants.

"I hope this becomes an annual event! I know other facility people that would really benefit from it" -- Alina Talbott  (Hines Interests, LP - PETCO Park)

"I really enjoyed the sustainability tour ... The tour and presentations were engaging and demonstrate the substantive changes Balboa Park institutions are making in the area of sustainable operations. Clearly, the Partnership’s leadership in this area has been essential and your work on sustainability is a model for institutional collaboration.  I hope that you will offer the sustainability walkabouts in the future as they are a valuable outreach program." -- Mariah Hudson (Center for Regional Sustainability
San Diego State University)

"The Walk-About was exceptionally successful! It was a pleasure and an honor to speak about the [San Diego History Center] lighting retrofit.  Everyone did great and personally enjoyed listening to all the speakers. There is always so much to learn from one another and we should be thankful to BPCP and there unyielding efforts to collaborate all of the funding and programs." Oscar Urrutia
 (San Diego History Center)
