Michael W. Hager, PhD
President & CEO
Dr. Michael W. Hager is the President & CEO of the San Diego Natural History Museum. Prior to his move to the San Diego Natural History Museum in 1991, Dr. Hager was a professor of geology at Augustana College (1973-78), the Director of the Museum of the Rockies (1978-89), and Director of the Virginia Museum of Natural History (1989-91). Dr. Hager knows many aspects of museum practice, having served as a preparator, educator, curator, executive director, and museum consultant. Dr. Hager earned a B.A. in biology from Grinnell College and a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Wyoming. His academic specialty is paleontology, and his administrative specialty is strategic planning and development. Within the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership, Dr. Hager chairs the Development Committee and is a member of the BPLI Steering Committee.
