The Centro Cultural de la Raza was founded in 1970 as a Chicano Community Cultural Center to facilitate artistic growth and cultural interchange in the San Diego/Tijuana region. Its mission is to promote, preserve, and create Mexican, Chicano, Indigenous and Latino art and culture. In support of this mission, the Centro provides art, drama, music, and dance classes and performances to the public and has given rise to many artistic groups, such as MALAF, the Mexican American Liberation Art Front, and Teatro Mestizo. The Centro's circular building is one of the largest Chicano cultural arts buildings in the Southwest.

The Balboa Park Cultural Partnership serves as the collaborative body and collective voice for 26 arts, science, and cultural institutions in Balboa Park. Together we achieve greater effectiveness, innovation, and excellence and contribute to the vitality and sustainability of Balboa Park. Our collective 500 trustees, 7,000 volunteers, and 3,500 staff serve more than 6.2 million visitors annually.
