The mission of the Japanese Friendship Garden Society of San Diego is to create a Japanese-style garden dedicated to the well being of all people that provides educational programs and encourages understanding of the Japanese heritage among people of diverse ethnic backgrounds and cultures. The Garden has roots in the 1915 Panama-California Exposition, which featured a Japanese Teahouse to symbolize strong cultural and commercial ties linking the United States and Japan.

The Balboa Park Cultural Partnership serves as the collaborative body and collective voice for 26 arts, science, and cultural institutions in Balboa Park. Together we achieve greater effectiveness, innovation, and excellence and contribute to the vitality and sustainability of Balboa Park. Our collective 500 trustees, 7,000 volunteers, and 3,500 staff serve more than 6.2 million visitors annually.
