San Diego Museum of Man

The San Diego Museum of Man preserves the record of human ecology and bio-cultural evolution, focusing on the peoples of the Western Americas with comparative examples from other areas. Following San Diego's 1915 Panama-California Exposition, a group of far-sighted citizens formed the Museum to keep the collections that were assembled for the Exposition in San Diego. Today, these collections have grown to over 72,000 objects. Drawing upon collection strengths in the Western Americas, ancient Egypt, and physical anthropology, the Museum fulfills its mission through exhibits, education, research, and publications. These components interact to create a dynamic learning environment for a broad, multicultural audience.
