This complimentary Walk-About will be lead by Robert Gilleskie and Park staff, who will share the story of recent Park sustainability retrofits, other programs and practices and how these relate to ENERGYSTAR rating and LEED certification for existing buildings. CAM Ignite! Museums as Catalysts for Sustainability, October 15, 2011
The Balboa Park Cultural Partnership and San Diego Zoo Global will engage museum, environmental, and community leaders in roundtable discussions as part of a statewide initiative, titled Ignite! Museums as Catalysts for Sustainability. The goals of this event are to explore the fundamental ecological issues facing each region and to seek ways in which museums can be partners in finding solutions to these challenges. Read more.

The final session will deal with sustainability as it affects the U.S. and world economies. Toward this end, the issues of a “green economy” and “green jobs”will illustrate the interdependence of each of the elements of the Triple Bottom Line. The second of the four sessions will go into much greater detail on the issues of energy, water and waste, and show how their management, or lack thereof, determines the extent to which activities, projects, or processes are sustainable. In both this, and the first, session, the topic of climate change and its causes will serve as a backdrop and motivation for much of sustainable development. Read more.
Basics of Sustainability, March 23, 2011
The first of four sustainability workshops held by the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership will cover the basics of sustainability– origins of the sustainability movement, definitions, principles, and those characteristics which lead to sustainable development. This session will introduce the concept of the Triple Bottom Line with its three interrelated and interdependent concepts ofthe Environment, Economy, and Social Equity. Read more.

Save Enery, Save Money, January 14, 2010
This workshop is designed for owners of small and medium-sized organizations and non-technical staff who want to learn ways to reduce energy costs at their place of business. Using Balboa Park as an example, participants will receive practical information on how to conduct an energy-use survey and information about their lighting and air-conditioning systems. The class also presents the useful energy conservation information on utility bills and rate schedules, and includes a work plan to implement survey recommendations.
