Advocacy

The City of San Diego is considering a potential new model of governance for Balboa Park, possibly a conservancy model like Central Park in New York City. The Partnership is working with the Mayor’s task force and our 26 member institutions to ensure the needs of Park users are considered along with the needs of Park institutions. The new governance model will need to fund $250 million in deferred maintenance items to maintain the Park’s infrastructure.

The Balboa Park Cultural Partnership serves as the collaborative body and collective voice for 26 arts, science, and cultural institutions in Balboa Park. Together we achieve greater effectiveness, innovation, and excellence and contribute to the vitality and sustainability of Balboa Park. Our collective 500 trustees, 7,000 volunteers, and 3,500 staff serve more than 6.2 million visitors annually.
