The first of four sustainability workshops held by the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership will cover the introduction to sustainability. This workshop provides an introduction to the concepts of sustainability and how it relates to industry, business, and everyday life. Attendees will become familiar with the concepts of sustainability as they apply to six major areas: energy, water, waste management, including recycling, building design, including an introduction to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), transportation, and agriculture and land use. The intent of this first session is to introduce the main concepts in each of these areas, prior to a more in-depth discussion of these areas in sessions 2 and 3. The instructor will also set the stage for a discussion of Life Cycle Costing Analysis, which will be covered in session 4.
