What is the Living House Exhibit?
San Diego Regional Sustainability Partnership (SDRSP) a local nonprofit, has proposed a futuristic, sustainable Living House Exhibit for Balboa Park’s 2015 Centennial Celebration in partnership with the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership’s Sustainability Program.
"The Time to Make a Difference Has Come"
The Living House Exhibit will showcase this sustainable building model and initiatives in the Park and the Region. This project will be built by San Diegans to benefit the San Diego region and visitors from around the world. At the February 15 breakfast, the Partnership and the San Diego Regional Sustainability Partnership will unveil the "Living House" project to be built in Balboa Park.
This Exhibit will inspire sustainable building practices and behavior, educating on how to save natural resources, support healthier lifestyles and lower the carbon foot print in our lives.
The Living House Exhibit will include:
1. Sustainability education tours that are wheelchair accessible.
2. Incorporate various elements of Biomimicry in the House design, such as built-in obsolescence. The House’s products, fixtures, furniture, materials and equipment will be regularly up-dated, expanding the sustainability showcase opportunities.
3. Be a resource for collection performance data for case studies for the public.
4. A theater and will provide information such as how homes have changed over the years (comparing to the house exhibit of 1935), along with other displays in development.
5. A Showcase Gardens a minimum of three forms of gardening, as well a water conservation, pests control and garden life cycles, with the help of the Park’s horticulturists, SDRSP landscape architects, and local landscape businesses.
6. An Information Center will provide visitors with information on the house i.e. samples of products, materials equipment and technology. Provide cultural competent literature to serve a diverse audience
7. SDRSP is in the process of making a documentary on the building of the House, including design concepts, and the documenting the vast collaboration of people and organizations involved to bring this exhibit to life.
